BLA Kills Guard, Abducts 12 Workers at Balochistan Construction Camp

Gunmen from the banned Baloch Liberation Army attacked a construction camp in Balochistan's Duki district on September 26, 2026, killing a civilian security guard and abducting 12 workers in an operation that singled out non-local laborers by checking identity cards before deciding who to take.

What happened at the camp

The attack struck a construction company's camp in the Palri area of Nana Sahib Ziarat, Duki district. According to police, BLA gunmen exchanged fire with the camp's civilian security staff; guard Mohtajur Rehman, a resident of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was killed in the firing, and two others — guard Imran Wazir and a passerby, Latif Tareen — were wounded. The attackers then rounded up the workers present, checked their identity cards, and selected 12 to take with them: 10 from Punjab and two local Pashtun residents. Before leaving, the gunmen set fire to heavy construction machinery at the site and fled into the surrounding hills.

The identity-card detail matters

Checking identity documents before deciding whom to abduct or kill is a pattern that has recurred in Baloch separatist attacks on migrant laborers in the province, where workers from Punjab and other provinces are frequently targeted specifically because they are seen as outsiders in a majority-Baloch region. The 10-to-2 split between Punjabi and local workers among those taken points in that direction, though BLA has not yet issued its own statement explaining the selection.

A second, separate clash the same day

Hours apart from the Duki attack, militants separately attacked the residence of Dera Bugti District Council Chairman Ghulam Nabi Shambhani. The Bugti Peace Force, a local security force, responded quickly and repelled the assault; when the attackers tried to flee, security personnel pursued them, and the resulting exchange of fire killed 13 militants. The two incidents are unconnected beyond both taking place in Balochistan on the same day, but together they illustrate how much of the province's security picture is now made up of parallel, simultaneous incidents rather than a single ongoing campaign.

The response so far

Police, Frontier Corps personnel and other local security agencies have cordoned off the Duki area and launched a joint search operation to locate the 12 missing workers and identify those responsible for the attack. No recoveries or arrests had been reported as of this writing.

Part of a wider pattern

The Duki abduction follows security forces' rescue of 23 hostages from an illegal checkpoint set up for abduction and extortion in Kalat earlier this month, and comes roughly a week after ISPR reported killing 19 militants in a separate three-district campaign across Shaban, Kech and Quetta West. Taken together with BLA's own claim of 28 operations across a dozen districts in early September, the events of the past month point to an insurgency that is simultaneously targeting security forces, local officials and migrant laborers across multiple, geographically separate fronts — not a conflict confined to any single district or target type.

What's unverified

The casualty and abduction figures here come from police sources rather than an independent count, and BLA had not, as of this writing, issued its own statement claiming or detailing the Duki attack. The fate of the 12 abducted workers remains unknown.
