Lahore is the seat of the Punjab government and the Lahore High Court, which makes it the centre of decisions affecting Pakistan's most populous province, from Section 144 orders to school schedules. It is also headquarters to Pakistan Railways.
Punjab has banned public gatherings of five or more people until October 5 and asked for Pakistan Rangers to deploy in four districts, citing intelligence on suicide bombers and VBIEDs — a sharper legal escalation than the highway blockades alone.
